[course description]
control is the action of causing a system variable to approach some desired value. it is also a fundamental and universal problem-solving approach in many traditional and interdisciplinary fields.

a control system, in a very general sense, is a system with an (reference) input that can be applied per the desired value and an output from which how well the system variable matches to the desired value (e.g., errors) can be determined. it can be found in daily life, almost all engineering disciplines, and even biological and social studies. for examples, bicycle riding involves with a control system comprising of a bicycle and a rider, with inputs and outputs associated with the desired attitude, speed, and direction of the bicycle. temperature control systems have applications in household, automobile, aerospace, office, factory, and agriculture environments. motion control systems are critical to factory automation and precision instruments, such as industrial robots, atomic-force microscopes, and step-and-scan photolithography exposure systems. many modern cameras equip with autofocus and vibration compensation systems to minimize image blur. many kinds of circuits such as phase lock loops, operational amplifiers, and voltage regulators rely on control to ensure their functions and performance. a living body is a complex control system where many critical variables such as heart beat rate, blood pressure, and body temperature are regulated constantly for health. central banks of most countries around the world set interest rates as a way to control inflation.

this undergraduate course is designed for junior and senior (3rd/4th yr.) students to apprehend basic modeling, simulation, analysis, and design techniques for control systems. it intends to cover fundamentals of “classical control” that primarily focuses on frequency domain feedback control approaches for single-input-single-output systems. when time permits, some essential elements in modern-day control engineering such as state-space approaches, discrete-time digital control, and numerical methods will also be introduced.

本課程探討現代數學最佳化(mathematical optimization)問題之演算法及理論基礎。數學最佳化可以應用到極多工程、科學等相關領域。其中,凸最佳化(convex optimization,或譯"凸優化")。這一類型的問題為本課程探討的重點,其具有局部最佳解即為全域最佳解的特點。本課程將介紹凸集合(convex sets)、凸函數(convex functions)、凸最佳化問題(convex optimization)之定義及各種性質,再透過二元性(duality)、kkt conditions的理論觀點了解最佳解的條件。最後介紹內點法的原理以及如何以多項式時間來求解凸最佳化的問題。

.detection & estimation theory provides the mathematical background in studying detection theory and estimation theory. the detection theory is an engineering term for what the statistician calls hypothesis testing or decision making. the problem is one of taking measurements and then estimating in which of a finite number of states an underlying systems resides. it is used to select the physical or mathematical model from a finite class of models, that best describes measured phenomena. the estimation theory is an engineering term for what the statistician calls parameter estimation or point estimation. the problem is one of taking measurements and estimating the numerical value of a real or complex vector that describes the system under study. it is used to identify unknown, information-bearing parameters in a physical or mathematical model. in this course, we will discuss the following related topics:
1. elements of hypothesis testing – bayesian, minimax, neyman-pearson and composite testings.
2. signal detection in discrete time – models and detector structures, performance evaluation of signal detection procedures, sequential detection.
3. elements of parameter estimation – bayesian parameter estimation, nonrandom parameter estimation, maximum-likelihood estimation.
4. elements of signal estimation – kalman-bucy filtering, linear estimation, wiener filtering.
5. signal detection in continuous time – the detection of deterministic signals in gaussian noise, the detection of random signals in gaussian noise.
6. signal estimation in continuous time – estimation of signal parameters, linear estimation.

本課就是微分方程(ii),是討論如何應用智慧邏輯來解微分方程式的相關問題。智慧邏輯是指相關的中國哲學思考邏輯,我們活用這些邏輯來求解微分方程的問題,竟然發現可以完全解決微分方程的所有問題;因此,藉這門課來討論智慧邏輯的使用,進而推展出相對於一般性問題的智慧邏輯,期望學習者從此處學習到解決問題的能力。所謂智慧邏輯的解題方法,指的是具有完備性、解題又準又迅速的方法,這個方法如何得到,可以用下列的課程大綱大致說明其中的程序:

1.智慧邏輯的基本概念:包括專一邏輯及多元化邏輯

2.微分方程的分類與一階多次(線性或非線性)常微分方程式:
a.general form and normal form.
b.domain of unique analytic solution and singular curve(boundary curve)
c.singular point and singular solution
d.型的定義分類與二分法邏輯
e.型走意隨與意走型隨

3.高階線性常微分方程式:
a.solution space and function space

4.systems of linear differential equations

電工實驗(通信專題)是針對電機系三年級與四年級學生所開設的實驗課程。此課程分為理論與實作兩個方向:

理論:
1. 信號處理:從信號與系統出發,引導到此領域近年來研究發展方向。此部份如basics of signals and systems,time-frequency analysis,signal compression等技術。
2. 通信系統:利用信號處理的技術,分析瞭解通信系統的基本架構,以及所需要克服的技術挑戰。此部份內容如 introduction to communication systems,digital modulation/demodulation,convolutional code等。

實作:
1. 使用matlab以及軟體無線電來驗證所學之理論。
2. 學術報告:分成文獻報告與期末專題,讓學生們能針對當前的研究主題,練習問題分析,學術寫作,以及口頭報告。
